AVL VisioScopeThe advanced system for visualisation of combustion and injection processes.
With VisioScope AVL has developed the third generation of direct imaging systems for R&D on combustion engines. The 4 mm endoscopes provide optical access to the combustion chamber and to almost all moving parts of the engine.
The system runs on a new software platform which allows a high degree of flexibility in optical combustion diagnostics. For the observation of flames with low light radiation intensified cameras can be used. In the case of cycle resolved image recording a high speed video camera can be connected. Furthermore the system can be synchronised with indicating systems and allows to display and store important test bed data together with the recorded images. Flame or spray velocity investigations can be carried out by using a double camera system.
Powerful Post-Processing for Extensive Analysis and InterpretationA unique feature of the system is the engine- related evaluation of images by the powerful post-processing software. The display of cyclic variations of a combustion flame or the simulation of a representative combustion cycle, for example, can be of great help in improving CFD models.
Temperature Determination of Diesel FlamesWith the software option Thermovision, a new dimension of visual analysis of diesel flame temperature has been reached. Thermovision is based on the two colour method applicable to all types of diesel engines. The Thermovision software allows the evaluation of the spatial distribution of diffusion flame temperature and soot concentration. This information is highly relevant for examining the formation of exhaust components.
