Acoustics - EngineCustomer RequirementsThe legislative regulations regarding noise are becoming increasingly stringent. Passenger cars, Trucks, Farming and Construction equipment have to fulfil these noise emission legislations in different markets for the Pass-By Noise and the Noise at Operator‘s Ear.
Also the work-place and the operator environment have to consider the health and safety regulations, which limit the noise and vibration levels. At the same time the product must remain competitive in sales price despite continuous noise refinement of the powertrain to increase the comfort level of the vehicle user.

AVL ApproachTo support the design of a new engines or powertrains AVL carries out finite element simulations for dynamic structure optimization using AVL developed software already in the concept and design stage. The acoustic and vibration characteristics are predicted and the design is optimized before the first hardware is produced.
During experimental development, a variety of parameters are analyzed, such as overall engine noise, combustion excitation, noise radiation characteristics, vibration behavior and noise quality. Based on this, strategies are developed together with the customer to realize the most appropriate NVH solutions quantified by the aforementioned parameters and under considerations of productions feasibility and cost aspects. |
