AVL Engine Timing Unit

The AVL 427 Engine Timing Unit (ETU) is a professional control unit for generating crank angle or time-based control and trigger signals. It enables easy use of special instrumentation and quick start-up of prototype engines, particularly in engine research and pre-development work.

Flexible Use With Development Engines

The AVL 427 ETU is the basic ECU for the manual control of prototype and development engines. The user can manually intervene at any time and change the diesel and gasoline injection process, the ignition and other actuators as and when required. The ETU therefore allows you to put your engine into operation even in the early development stage.

For Controlling Crank Angle-Based Measurement Systems

The AVL 427 ETU is also used for the engine-related control and synchronization of signal sources (e.g. pulse laser, strobe) and measurement systems (e.g. LIF, PIV, TCA, camera system). This is a universal device which truly simplifies the application and use of different measurement systems in pre-development work.

The System In Detail

The AVL 427 ETU has eight separate channels that can generate a variable TTL signal with adjustable start time and pulse duration. The pulses can either be triggered individually or repeated in cycles. Any combination of working and waiting cycles can be programmed. It is also possible to generate more than one pulse group per cycle. The functions can be selected from the menu-driven user interface.
