The oil circuit simulation is based on a FLOWMASTER simulation of the complete oil circuit. The oil pump specification is based on database information available at AVL from previous development projects. The detailed optimisation of the lubrication system considers the oil pump, pressure control valve, bearings, piston cooling jets, oil filter, oil cooler, auxiliaries, and pressure losses in pipes. The FLOWMASTER simulation is supported with in depth analysis of the oil flow through the bearings with AVL/EXCITE.
Several engine operating conditions are simulated in order to optimise the pump layout and capacity in view of oil flow and oil pressure at critical locations in the oil circuit.
