AVL Strengths

The technology and experience available at AVL ensures that every customer receives the best possible port design with a very short time-frame. The use of advanced computer techniques, plus the experience gained from extensive in-house research, enables AVL to produce port designs with excellent flow characteristics which meet all production requirements.

CAD/CAM has been introduced 17 years ago for the design of port surfaces and manufacture of core boxes. Over the past 50 years more than 1000 intake and exhaust ports have been designed by AVL.

AVL Approach

Since the very earliest days of AVL, a group of specialists has been responsible for the design and development of ports for diesel and gasoline engines. During this time a wealth of knowledge and experience has been gained in designing high efficiency ports and creating optimum in-cylinder flow conditions.

Four steady-state flow test rigs are used for flow development. Port modifications, contour adjustments and manufacture of the final customer core boxes are carried out in AVL’s own pattern shop.
