Functional Development

The functional development work related to mechanical functions is performed on test beds or in-vehicle. Based on the results of rig testing, the components are tested under the conditions of a running engine.

Important development areas are e.g.:

  • power cylinder system development with respect to blow-by, oil consumption, robustness against scuffing
  • cooling system – water and also air side
  • lubrication and breather system performance under installation angle and also under tilting
  • valvetrain and timing drive system
  • cranktrain dynamics and resulting loads on crankshaft and bearings
  • belt drive system
  • vibration of external engine components
