Customer Requirements

The challenging target of reducing both fuel consumption and emissions requires new approaches. The range spans from exhaust gas recycling and variable turbocharging through exhaust aftertreatment and alternative HCCI combustion for gasoline and diesel engines up to hybrid electric vehicles. All of these require innovative control functions based on a deep understanding of advanced engines and powertrains. In many cases, the engineer’s target requires fast and precise control of coupled nonlinear multi-variable systems – far beyond the capabilities of standard PID control.
