Vehicle Calibration for Emissions and Fuel Consumption

Customer Requirements

Emission legislation becomes more and more difficult to fulfill and high costs due to penalties or recalls may arise if the emission limits are exceeded in the field. Furthermore there is a strong requirement to reduce fuel consumption.

A robust emission calibration is necessary to meet the emission limits for mass production. All possible conditions like aged exhaust aftertreatment system, altitude and low ambient temperature have to be considered. Fuel consumption has to be optimized in the official driving cycles and for end-user driving profiles, as well.

The challenge is to provide the best trade-off between fuel consumption and emissions, without any negative influences on the driveability.
