Vehicle Calibration for Emissions and Fuel ConsumptionCustomer RequirementsEmission legislation becomes more and more difficult to fulfill and high costs due to penalties or recalls may arise if the emission limits are exceeded in the field. Furthermore there is a strong requirement to reduce fuel consumption.
A robust emission calibration is necessary to meet the emission limits for mass production. All possible conditions like aged exhaust aftertreatment system, altitude and low ambient temperature have to be considered. Fuel consumption has to be optimized in the official driving cycles and for end-user driving profiles, as well.
The challenge is to provide the best trade-off between fuel consumption and emissions, without any negative influences on the driveability.

AVL ApproachAVL’s tradition in combustion development leads to a deep understanding of the formation of engine out emissions. Combined with the long-term experience in exhaust aftertreatment development and know-how in state-of-the-art ECU software strategies, AVL utilizes an integrated emission application approach.
A major time reduction is achieved by starting emission cycle optimisation in a very early project phase on high dynamic AVL test beds, using most modern tools and methodologies.
The in-vehicle optimization on the emission dyno can be carried out at AVL headquarters, at customer’s site or locally in AVL Tech Centers. |
