The final engine and system layout is developed in a thorough concurrent engineering approach. “Layout design” means 3D models (of parts and assemblies) containing information on the geometrical shape and the dimensions reflecting AVL’s layout requirements to the part. The 3D CAD model considers packaging, assembly, and service requirements.
The virtual engine model is the basis for the detailed analysis on dynamics, fluid flow, strength and durability to minimise engine development time and cost. High quality is maintained throughout the whole process by utilising FMEA's, risk management, project management and PDM integration.
