The final engine and system layout is developed in a thorough concurrent engineering approach. The final and complete 3D CAD model considers packaging, assembly, and service requirements. The model includes the specification of main component properties such as critical tolerances, material selection and surface finish and treatment.
The requirements from the system suppliers and from production technologies are fully included in developing these specifications.
The virtual engine model is the basis for the detailed analysis on dynamics, fluid flow, strength and durability to minimise engine development time and cost. High quality is maintained throughout the whole process by utilising FMEA's, risk management, project management and PDM integration.
