The development work related to mechanical functions is performed on AVL steady state test beds. Building on the results of rig testing, the components are tested in the fired engine under thermal load.
An important aspect is the development of the piston / ring / liner assembly for low oil consumption and blow-by, resistance to scuffing, and for low friction considering the production variations and the effect on product cost.
The functional development is also a prerequisite for trouble-free performance and emission development work that follows.
