About AVL

AVL – The Thrill of Solution

AVL, a company with currently 3150 employees worldwide has always been committed to set new technological standards. State-of-the-art solutions are developed and brought to the market in each of the business areas: Powertrain Engineering, Instrumentation & Test Systems and Advanced Simulation Technologies. The R&D budget of more than 10% of turnover underlines AVL’s innovative spirit.

Founded in 1948 and today in private ownership of Prof. Helmut List, AVL has gained world wide recognition in its business areas. Global thinking and local acting – AVL was doing it from the beginning and developed its structure accordingly: 45 affiliates and TechCenters are providing local services, linking the headquarter in Graz, Austria, to the customers and generating an export quota of 96%.

Advanced Simulation Technologies

The key to the successful development of new drive technologies is the computer-aided simulation of structural and acoustic behavior, flow and combustion processes. Due to the vast range of variables in modern engine systems and the highly complex interplay of all components, it is no longer possible to identify the parameters influencing durability, vibration behavior and acoustics, fuel consumption and emissions without the aid of sophisticated simulation calculations.

AVL's team of 70 physicists, mathematicians and engineers is capable of satisfying the growing demand of development engineers for precise and reliable data. Thanks to the synergies between AVL's simulation and testing expertise, the forecasts generated by its models are exceptionally reliable, and can be applied to practical problems with a high level of confidence. One of the main factors in meeting the target of halving the overall development lead time for new engines will be speeding up preliminary and ongoing simulation. The close communication between software specialists and engineers at AVL enables computer runtimes to keep coming down, and allows models to be introduced into the development process without delay.
