AVL KMA 6000The AVL KMA 6000 fuel measuring system is used to measure fuel consumption on engine test beds in research, development and production. The integrated devices, measures the volumetric and gravimetric consumption within very short measurement times, precisely with continuous Measurement. The flow meter works with the unique PLU measurement principle (see link “Measurement Principle”) which produces no pressure drop (Δp = 0) between inlet and outlet.
Most of the requirements of engine test beds are covered with the standard system. The conditioning provides gas-bubble free fuel with pre-selected temperatures which can be adjusted in a wide range. The stability of the adjusted temperature reaches +/- 0.1°C. The needed pressures (inlet and outlet of the engine) can be adjusted independently. The AVL KMA 4000/6000 family are worldwide the only systems which can handle the adjustment of the quantity of circulating fuel over the engine.
Special customer wishes (e.g. negative pressures) can be covered by options or customer specific solutions.
The system is specially designed to fulfil the special requirements of big diesel engines like higher consumption and big circulation quantities.
Several flow ranges (e.g. 0.8 … 300 l/h) starting with 0.35 l/h up to 500 l/h are available for the different applications. This guarantees that more than a whole family of engines can be measured without change of the equipment. If this spread is not enough, the measurement range can be changed very easy to adapt the system to all other engines only by change of the measuring head.
In addition to the RS 232 interface with AK protocol the data read out is realised with a new CANopen interface with standardised driver. With the new serial RS 232 System Controller (option) a standalone operating of the system with display of basic measurement results is possible. Additional 4 analogue outlets for data transmission are integrated there.
The factory default calibration is based on test beds that have been certified by the German Federal National Metrology Institute (PTB). Therefore the measurement results are traceable to national standards.
MAIN APPLICATION AREAS- Measurement of big diesel engines
- fuel temperature stability (+/- 0.1°C)
- easy change of the measurement range only by change of the measuring head
- Steady state and dynamic flow measurements on test bed

TAKING ADVANTAGE OF AVL MEANS:Savings in test bed capacity:
- 100 % measuring readiness with a very high density of information
- Extremely short measuring times means much shorter overall test times
- Self-monitoring to prevent malfunctions
- Permanent checking of the measuring values for plausibility by static evaluation
- Fully automatic fuel change in order to reduce refitting times to a minimum when changing an engine
- Due to the long-term stability of the calibration there is no need for any recalibration
- External circulation quantity to the engine can be adjusted between 500 and 1.500 l/h
- Output pressure towards the engine adjustable up to 8 bar
- Measuring range for high consumption levels: 1.2...500 l/h; 1.0...415 kg/h* (*with a density of 0.83 /cm³)
- All measuring ranges can be implemented in one and the same system by exchanging the measuring head
- Optimized service friendliness
- Negative output and return pressure levels
