Powertrain Engineering Transmissions AVL Transmission Calibration

AVL Transmission Calibration

Market Requirements

Fuel efficiency, low emissions and enhanced comfort are the main drivers for modern powertrain development. Demanding transmission technologies like Automated Manual (AMT) and Dual Clutch Transmissions (DCT) are entering the market. Step Automatic (AT) and Continuous Variable Transmissions (CVT) are being upgraded with a particular focus on the control strategies to achieve the targets above. These different powertrains are applied to a broader variety of different vehicles to meet the customer demands for individualization.
Different markets have distinguished priorities and expectations from customers and legislation.

Altogether, this leads to a dramatically increased demand for application and calibration engineering services. To deliver these services and answer the time and cost reduction targets, more efficient methods, tools and processes are required.

AVL Approach

As an independent engineering company with no particular manufacturing affiliations, AVL is an ideal partner for concept definition, prototype and series development of all types of transmissions.

AVL built a solution for automated transmission calibration based on its unique combination of transmission application and calibration, instrumentation and test systems. The solution combines AVL's extensive know-how in the area of DOE and optimization using AVL Cameo as well as AVL-DRIVE. Both systems are well proven in the area of engine and transmission development.
Seeing the most demand currently coming from step automatic transmissions, AVL already extends the different modules for automated transmission calibration to the newer transmission types like AMT, CVT and DCT, even covering hybrid functionalities.
