AVL OTR – On the Road OpacimeterThe AVL OTR is a pressure filled partial-flow opacimeter with a special sampling probe for mobile and online emission measurement of smoke density.
A partial exhaust gas flow is continuously sampled out of the tailpipe emission using a probe which is mounted on the tail pipe of the vehicle. The sensor unit (chamber for opacity measurement) is pressure filled with exhaust gas. This sensor unit is mounted on a special mounting frame (sensor unit console) close to the open tail pipe. The console for the sensor unit is designed for vehicles equipped with a standard trailer coupling (trailer clutch).
A control cable connects the sensor unit with the 24VDC power supply and the PCīs serial COM interface, which should be kept in the interior of the vehicle. The equipment can be supplied by the carīs board net e.g. by the power from the cars cigarette lighter.
The new PC program makes it easy to control the sensor unit during the tests. A notebook can be placed on the front passenger seat where everything gets displayed during the tests. Perfect online monitoring via displayed graph and data post processing after a test with the saved data file are now provided by the AVL Instruments PC Software.
Depending on the conditions of the exhaust gas system (open tail pipe) the OTR sample probe can be adjusted and effortlessly fixed on the vehicle so that tests can also be carried out at high speeds.
Thanks to mobile engine-vehicle adjustments, easy handling and short application times for the complete system on the vehicle make the OTR Opacimeter the perfect measurement tool for exhaust gas optimization as well as R&D.

Output of Measurement Values The PC program displays the measurement results as opacity N (0 to 100%) or absorption coefficient k (0 to 99,99m-1).
