Cooled EGR and Particulate Trap

Cooled EGR and engine internal measures for NOx reduction combined with a particulate trap to control soot emission is a preferred solution to comply with the current stringent emission legislation. The technology developed at AVL comprises:

  • combustion system insensitive to high EGR rates and late timing

  - low soot emission
  - low soot-in-oil

  • alternative combustion system in part load operation

  - for exhaust temperature management, needed for regeneration of after treatment systems

  • robust cooled EGR system with

  - exact EGR rate control in the entire engine map
  - low pressure losses in transporting exhaust gas to the intake

  • reliable and stable EGR control, insensitive to fouling
  • particulate trap system with advanced control for regeneration under all operating conditions
