AVL KMA MobileHigh precision fuel consumption measurement system for mobile use on the roadThe AVL KMA mobile fuel measuring system is used to measure fuel consumption mobile on the road and can also be used on chassis dynamometers. The integrated devices, measures the volumetric consumption within very short measurement times, precisely with continuous Measurement. The flow meter works with the unique PLU measurement principle (see link “Measurement Principle”) which produces no pressure drop (Δp = 0) between inlet and outlet.
The system has been designed in such a way that the conditions of the fuel supply system, prevailing in a vehicle (temperature, pressure levels) are affected as little as possible.
The modular designed system consists of the basic Measuring Module for engines without return flow to the tank and the additional Conditioning Module for engines with return flow to the tank. For engines without return flow a fuel measurement without pressure drop in the system is possible using the Measuring Module. For measuring engines with return flow the conditioning unit is used additional. The complete system provides fuel temperatures in the supply line to the engine which corresponds to fuel temperature in the tank. The heat from any existing fuel return system is carried back to the vehicle tank like it is without measurement system. The needed pressures (inlet and outlet of the engine) can be adjusted independently.
The pump concept with 2 standard and 2 additional (option) fuel pumps enable the universal use at different engines. To meet the engine requirements the pumps can be used as inlet or outlet pumps.
The AVL KMA mobile is worldwide the only system which allows a measurement of fuel in the vehicle in this class of precise (0.1 % accuracy of reading).
Special customer wishes can be covered by options or customer specific solutions.
Several flow ranges (e.g. 0.35 … 150 l/h) starting with 0.16 l/h up to 300 l/h are available for the different applications. This guarantees that more than a whole family of engines can be measured without change of the equipment. If the used measurement range does not fit, the measurement head can be changed very easy to optimise the system to other engines or special measurement tasks.
The measurement readout is possible with an independent PC via the included software, or with a RS 232 interface with AK protocol. As an option a comfortable remote control can be used this also shows the main measuring results.
The factory default calibration is based on test beds that have been certified by the German Federal National Metrology Institute (PTB). Therefore the measurement results are traceable to national standards.
MAIN APPLICATION AREAS- Special System for mobile use
- Flexible use with special solutions for engines with and without return flow
- Flexible pump concept to e.g. to increase the circulation fuel volume in front of the engine or to eliminate the heat out of the returning fuel
- adjustable pressures (inlet and outlet of the engine)
- easy change of the measurement range only by change of the measuring head
- Steady state and dynamic flow measurements on test bed

TAKING ADVANTAGE OF AVL MEANS:Savings in test bed capacity:
- 100 % measuring readiness with a very high density of information
- Extremely short measuring times means much shorter overall test times
- Permanent checking of the measuring values for plausibility by static evaluation
- Due to the long-term stability of the calibration there is no need for any recalibration
- External circulation quantity to the engine can be increased with additional pumps
- Output pressure towards the engine adjustable up to 5 bar
- Special system for big diesel applications
- All measuring ranges can be implemented in one and the same system by exchanging the measuring head
- Optimized service friendliness
- Negative output (option) and return (standard) pressure levels

TECHNICAL Facts:Technical information AVL KMA mobile
- Flow meter: positive displacement counter according to the PLU measuring principle
- Gravimetric results: For a determination of the gravimetric consumption the density value can be read into the software. The calculation of the gravimetric results includes a temperature correction. With the option high precision density meter the density is measured, the gravimetric consumption is defined very high precisely.
