DOE - Design of Experiments

DOE is a proven methodology to shorten the development time and increase the quality of results at the same time. AVL has developed a standard DOE procedure, planning the testing strategy based on the analysis of the development task identifying all engine parameters affecting the result.

DOE is the methodology to define combinations of these parameters such as to have the highest predictive power for every test, rather than varying only one parameter at a time. Based on the test results, empirical models are set up, which are mathematical functions of the responses on parameter variations found with testing. The model gives a good insight into the engine behaviour and the interdependence of the engine parameters. The optimum setting is easily found, assisted by the graphic representation of the multidimensional model, allowing also to judge upon the stability and robustness of the new setting with regard to manufacturing tolerances.
