Originally CCBR was developed to provide a technology which ensures a very good fuel consumption at the lowest possible cost. Target markets were the South - East Asian countries where fuel consumption and cost are the key selling arguments.
But in principle CCBR can be applied to every 4 - stroke engine with two intake valves. For application of CCBR the following major design modifications are required:
Beside the above mentioned potential to reduce the cost of operation via a good fuel economy, a fuel efficient vehicle provides also an extended cruising range with the same fuel tank capacity which makes CCBR an interesting concept for ATVs or vehicles with limited tank capacity. Furthermore a carburettor ensures a good reliability and easy maintenance which is important for trail riding.
For motorcycles with a moderate power output and a displacement below 150 cc CCBR is a cost attractive solution to comply with Euro III (boundary conditions see previous page) emission legislation.
The Figures on the right give an overview of the combustion chambers applied and vehicles for possible CCBR application.
