21st International AVL Conference 'Engine & Environment'10th – 11th September, 2009Helmut-List-Halle, Graz, Austria
Combustion Engine and Electric Drive – Partners or Compe titors in the Powertrain of the Future? The foreseeable increasing shortage of oil resources with the resulting increase in fuel prices and the problem of climate change are forcing the development of new technological approaches to secure sustainable mobility.
Electrification of the powertrain is currently the most prominent technology trend and appears to be a promising, environmentally friendly approach to reduce our dependency on oil. In addition to the further development of classic powertrains, the automotive industry is therefore working intensively on diverse concepts such as full, mild, micro and plug-in hybrids, electric drives with range extender, through to full electric vehicles. The success of electromobility primarily depends on the further development and implementation of advanced battery technology, and the question remains,“ What roles will the combustion engine play in the future powertrain?“
Amongst others, the following issues will be addressed at 'Engine & Environment' 2009:- The future combustion engine: Main propulsion or just emergency power supply?
- Effects of electrification on the engine and transmission
- Powertrain Electrification: Challenge for the electric motor and power electronics
- New concepts for combustion engines acting as range extenders
- Integration of the range extender in the electric vehicle
- The lithium-ion battery: On the verge of a breakthrough?
- Energy management
- Powertrain management
- etc.
