AVL’s Competences and Approach to solving the Problem

As system and development partner for the majority of teams in the premium classes of international motor sports, AVL provides instrumentation and test systems as well as complete, tailored solutions for the highest demands on quality and flexibility in racing. The specially trained racing application engineers focus quite clearly on efficiency and optimized process management.

Explaining Customer Requirement

The racing industry in particular has very special demands, which the AVL specialists fulfill completely – and always with a determination to understand and satisfy the customer’s requirements. As such, the AVL experts must be able to correctly recognize and verify even the smallest of developmental advancements. It is of equally eminent importance to exactly duplicate effects and problems observed during the race in the laboratory, in order to find ways to eliminate them. Even the effects of new developments are simulated by AVL so as to achieve as realistic verification as possible in the lab. And at all times greatest flexibility is maintained, seeing as it is imperative to be able to react quickly to any changes in the many regulations.

Examples of Application

The applications of AVL racing products take off in all directions. Developing power, for example, is just as important on the engine testbed as component optimization on special testbeds. Also, racing simulations can be performed on the high dynamic motor, powertrain or transmission testbed for all premium race classes. Special air conditioning systems including high dynamic drive wind simulation for Formula 1 engines and powertrain testbeds allow you to simulate cooling effects in any environmental climate and any racing situation – from pit stops to full throttle straights. Even tests and simulations of kinetic energy recovery systems (KERS) can be performed using AVL products.
