Established in 1994 to allow AVL to serve its North American clients directly, AVL PEI has locations on the west side of the Metro Detroit area in Plymouth and Ann Arbor.
Ray Corbin, the President of AVL PEI, heads a staff of more than 70 people including designers, CAE engineers, software support engineers and engine development specialists. PEI shares the 75,000 square foot Plymouth building with the Instrumentation and Test Systems division of AVL, which includes 11 performance and emissions test sites. PEI’s Ann Arbor test facility for powertrain validation testing and vehicle emissions contains 10 fully commissioned mechanical development, durability and validation test cells, with 10 more currently being commissioned.
The design workstations and development facilities in PEI allow AVL to conduct a full range of projects from simple analysis of detailed aspects through to total engine concept design and development.
AVL PEI also works closely with local and international component & system suppliers in the powertrain field, and is initiating US-focused R&D activities on behalf of the whole AVL world.
The Advanced Simulation Technologies team in Plymouth is active in software development, sales and support. During the year, several training courses are offered to users of AVL Virtual Engine tools.
