Cooled EGR and Particulate Trap

Cooled EGR and engine internal measures for NOx reduction combined with a particulate trap to control soot emission is a preferred solution to comply with the upcoming stringent emission legislation. The challenge is to develop:

  • a combustion with low soot emission in spite of high EGR rates
  • a robust cooled EGR system with
  • exact EGR rate control in the entire engine map
  • low pressure losses in transporting exhaust gas to the intake
  • a reliable and stable EGR control, insensitive to fouling
  • a particulate trap system which will regenerate under all operating conditions
