Material proposals and selections are based on experience from numerous engine development projects and on continuos technology monitoring. Consequences on cost, design and production are considered throughout the life cycles from the availability of proper ingot materials through to recycling requirements. The effects of customer specific production technologies are analysed.
Critical material properties are measured and benchmarked against the AVL engine material database to obtain the highest reliability for material decisions. Measurements are made from specimens similar to the component being developed.
