Dear readers,

MOTORSPORTS – as a combination of man and machine, of driving and engineering skills – fascinates millions of people every weekend. Regardless of which you admire more, both fields comprise extreme situations. While one side can be viewed “live”, the other side is the result of continuous work. In this process, the technical development is subject to continuously changing end conditions due to the regulations. However, environmental concerns exert a stronger influence on motor sports, which in combination is a special engineering challenge.

MOTORSPORTS will continue to use the chemical combustion in the engine - as the name already hints - as the primary source of energy, so that its efficiency is decisive for the result of the races. That is the reason why currently vehicles with diesel engines are victorious in long-distance races – one result of continued further development.

Partially MOTORSPORTS use special devices or calculations for combustion investigations that have to comply with the special requirements before a modification on the engine can be used in a race. In this MOTORSPORTS special edition, you will find an overview of interesting applications regarding investigation options of the combustion and some related areas. All these applications first and foremost provide valuable hints for the test engineer as well as for us being a provider of measurement technology. These hints are incorporated into our standard products and thus make the AVL combustion technology more robust for everyone. Thus, it is also true here that motor sports applications provide solutions to be used in standard products.

MOTORSPORTS as fascination and driver of innovations.

I hope you enjoy reading this newsletter!

Regards,
Rüdiger Teichmann
