List Family Establishes Cultural FoundationIntensified Dialogue Between Science and Culture
The intensification of the dialogue between science and art is the prime objective of the “Cultural Foundation” which was recently established by the List family in Graz. The foundation’s advisory board is led by Prof. Helmut List, CEO of the AVL List GmbH. Valery Gergiev, who set a highlight in the Graz cultural life in October 2007 with the Mariinsky Orchestra symphony concert, also exhibited considerable interest in the foundation.According to the two managing directors Kathryn List and Michael Ksela, the new foundation’s sphere of activity includes the linkage of AVL’s scientific achievements with art, the implementation of events for the promotion of contemporary art as well as internally relevant classics. Kathryn List: “The responsible integration of the young generation is of pivotal importance.”
In addition to the “Styrian Autumn” inaugural project, in which the Helmut List Hall itself performed like an instrument, the foundation’s current projects include the Mariinsky Orchestra symphony concert as well as support for “impuls”, an association for the provision of contemporary music. Further projects will follow.
As far as Prof. Helmut List is concerned, art has always been an important part of the corporate culture as well as an essential contribute towards AVL’s “corporate citizenship”. The support of the most varying projects in recent years has proven that a high-tech enterprise can outstanding achieve the breaching of the gap between art and technology.
