Angle Encoder 366C

Know exactly where you are

Precise rotation angle measurement in the vehicle or on the testbed.

Angle Encoder

Engine tests are now even expanding to vehicle testing on the road (RDE). AVL has developed a new optical encoder 366C that is much smaller, lighter and has less inertia than its predecessor. It has been designed to enable a precise and reliable acquisition of the rotating shaft characteristics. It monitors angle marks on a revolving shaft and transmits them via a fiber optic cable.
The Angle Encoder 366C is designed for the shaft end and is ideal for use in the test cell as well as in-vehicle.

The use of an angle encoder in a test cell is a standard application. Today’s customer expectations are “plug and play”: Easy installation of the encoder, precise and secure measurement of many different values in parallel and highly resolved and reliable data acquisition – these are requirements for all engine types no matter whether they originate from a passenger car, heavy duty vehicle, race car, or two-wheeler.
The Angle Encoder 366C offers you highly accurate results. Thanks to its fiber-optic signal transmission, the mechanics are neither influenced by high temperature nor by high vibration or electrical interference. Additionally, it can operate at loads of up to 500 g permanently, and 1,000 g temporarily. This means that you can use it with the utmost confidence, whatever your application.

Absolute Confidence, Absolute Compatibility

With the 366C you can measure both the speed and amount of rotation. When operated in combination with AVL X-ionTM, you can also use the 366C to measure the direction of rotation. This is achieved by monitoring the phase shift during signal evaluation, which can be useful, for example, when measuring the shaft position in stop-start operation. This allows you to know the absolute position of the shaft at any time during operation.
Furthermore, it is electrically compatible with our AVL Advanced GigaBit and AVL IndiMicro series indicating devices. These provide a range of valuable information, excluding direction of rotation.

Type Optical encoder 366C
Preferred acquisition AVL X-ion™ (Gigabit possible)
Detection rotation direction Yes, absolute angle available
Speed range 0 rpm to 20,000 rpm
Vibration resistance 500 × 9.81 m/s2 (500 g)
Short term load 1,000 g
Temperature range (mechanics) – 40°C to 120°C
Life time 107 revs at 500 g load
Signal type LVDS, RS422

High Precision

You can make precise and highly resolved measurements from 0 rpm to 20,000 rpm.

High Productivity

When connected to our AVL X-ion modular data acquisition platform, measurements can be done continuously thus increasing productivity.

Increased Functionality

Additional information on the direction of rotation (right - left) can be generated with the evaluation via AVL X-ion.

In-Vehicle Testing

The angle encoder 366C is significantly smaller, lighter and has less inertia than its predecessor. This compact design enables it to be installed and operated in the vehicle.

Integrated Marker Disk

An integrated marker disk with 720 marks enables the live acquisition of the rotation angle at a resolution of 0.5 degrees CA.

Signal-out Plug

Powered by X-ion, it also features an additional signal-out plug for CDM transfers. This can be useful for communicating with test cell systems such as AVL PUMA™.
