Today’s vehicle and component development process requires a large amount of increasingly complex and interdependent engineering tasks. OEMs, tier 1 suppliers and regulators face the challenge of managing this development effort and the associated high costs at typically low traceability and flexibility. A lot of effort is caused by cost intensive testing of prototypes in later development stages accompanied by non-traceable data-management along the development chain. AVL has a solution to tackle these issues.
Bridging the Gap between the Virtual and the Real World
AVL develops CONNECTED Toolchains as methodologies that combine testing, simulation, data-management and technological know-how to increase the efficiency of a development process in terms of quality, time and cost. By means of efficient “frontloading”, engineering tasks are shifted from expensive prototype testing on the road towards early development phases in a partly virtual environment.
We are developing CONNECTED Toolchains in a variety of different automotive areas, ranging from conventional powertrain applications to electrification and from component to system to vehicle level.
The ‘Advanced Calibration for Driveability’ (ACD) methodology conducts calibration tasks for drivability earlier in the development workflow. This is achieved by a model-based approach and a toolchain that combine flexibility in the choice of work environments with market-leading application know-how. It is further backed-up by our range of engineering and application services.
‘Advanced E-Drive Calibration’ speeds up your e-motor and inverter calibration. Up to 60 % time reduction in the calibration process (compared to a manual approach) is possible via an optimized automation sequence in combination with active DoE methodologies.
‘Torque Accuracy Check’ assists you to avoid inefficient and time-consuming conflicts between engine, e-motor, and transmission departments. This CONNECTED Toolchain is a powerful methodology containing fully automated and efficient testing, analysis, and reporting. Total cost of ownership savings up to 50 % are realistic and up to 80 % are possible.
‘Shift Strategy Calibration’ combines simulation and hardware consistently over the whole process to allow frontloading of tasks. Thus, at every process stage all components that are not yet available in hardware are substituted by simulated components.
AVL’s CONNECTED Toolchains allow you to frontload engineering tasks using automated testbed activities aided by a simulation environment. This saves time and money, and increases your development efficiency. The model-based approaches for optimization increase traceability of the engineering results, while offering flexibility in regards to the types of testbed.
