In light of this task, the role of the powertrain is crucial, yet it is also becoming increasingly important to include the vehicle’s overall system in the optimization efforts. To complement our core powertrain expertise, we are now implementing projects together with our customers, in which CO2 optimization measures are being extended to include the complete vehicle. AVL simulation tools and test environments are able to analyze the measures’ effectiveness for as many as ten different vehicle attributes and assess their impact on the overall system. The Global AVL Vehicle Benchmarking Program additionally allows a comparison to be made in relation to competitors. Moreover, AVL is working hard on connecting the powertrain or vehicle to its environment (“Connected Powertrain”), which can help to optimize the operating strategy and, as a result, fuel consumption, particularly in vehicles with electrified drive systems. By adopting this comprehensive approach to CO2 reduction, we can continue to develop attractive vehicles for our customers, distinguished both by high efficiency and maximum driving pleasure.
