Our Software is now a synonym for pleasure at work.” The training requirements were substantially reduced too. “Previously, we needed separate training sessions for each device – because of the different user interfaces,” said Michael Mühlögger, Global Business Unit Manager of Measurement and Instrumentation at AVL, adding “Now everything has a consistent design and is much easier to handle. When developing AVL ActiveLink™, particular attention was paid to establishing the same operating and integration interface – on the measurement instruments and on the automation side. This saves money and time.” To enhance test bed flexibility even further, and enable the quick use of measurement devices in different test environments without resetting all parameters, AVL has adopted a completely new approach to equipment integration with ActiveLink™. “Customers expect measurement devices to have fully consistent usability. They want the equipment to allow smooth, fast and simple integration and configuration. With AVL ActiveLink™ we have created an interface that allows you to integrate measurement devices easily and quickly into the AVL PUMA Open 2™ automation system, thanks to our plug & play technology. This raises test bed availability and increases operational safety at the same time, because the parameters are automatically taken over from the device and passed on to AVL PUMA Open 2™. Furthermore, the transfer of the measured values from the devices AVL ActiveLink™ > AVL ActiveLink™ – for smart & intelligent measurement device recognition. > Michael Mühlögger (left), Global Business Unit Manager, and Werner Fuchs (right), Head of Product Management and Operations. to the automation system is highly dynamic,” Michael Mühlögger added. INTELLIGENT DIAGNOSTIC FEATURES DELIVER FULL TRANSPARENCY To facilitate and speed up traceability and error diagnosis for measured values, AVL has integrated the test bed software with an intelligent error detection feature. “The number of measurement quantities along with the huge amount of data has risen drastically in recent years. For test bed users, it is important to be able to identify and solve errors quickly and with minimum effort. For the first time this has become possible with this unique diagnostic feature,” Werner Fuchs said. A customer based in South America who is testing different fuel types, for example, is now able to compare his results with other test values and shift test runs to other locations, for example to China. This enables to identify differences in test runs very quickly and to use them as a basis for introducing global standards which are applicable regardless of the location,” Fuchs explained. AVL PUMA Open 2™ and ActiveLink™ set new standards in advanced testbed operation. The automation system’s slogan “the ease of automation” is fully in line with this new and unique approach.  < AVL PUMA Open 2™ Hot plug & play Superior usability Fast data transfer Extended diagnostics
