Benchmarking, development and certification tasks previously reserved for road testing are increasingly reallocated to vehicle testbeds. Here, a big advantage of t he vehicle testbed is objectification which means that always available reproducible test conditions, ensure efficient testing and measuring. Through their highly accurate metrology, their intuitive control and engineering automation technology (PUMA Open for Vehicle Testing) combined with AVL InMotion powered by CarMaker and AVL CAMEO, the tool chain ACT (Automated Calibration for Transmission) and associated with the measuring system AVL M.O.V.E., AVL vehicle testbeds meet all current requirements on current and future-oriented R&D tasks as well as on an efficient developmental process. These tools and features available for all newer developments of hybrid cars and electric vehicles, as wel l as for all requirements relating to frontloading, do provide an end-to-end transition from road to test rig and final ly to simulation. CHARACTERISTICS The vehicle testbed provides a realistic image of the road and reproducible environmental conditions. This means that with a further diversification of systems at t he vehicle testbed means a tool will be needed to integrate al l vehicle components. While the vehicle testbeds are more closely connected to the engine and powertrain testbeds, significant savings can be achieved by re-using the test specifications, correlating test results and standardizing test tools and met hods are achievable. By means of an assessment of shifting quality and driveability, maneuver based testing or powertrain calibration optimization, the field of use and application range of vehicle testbeds will also be broadened.
