The Trend Conference in Graz 26th International AVL “Engine & Environment” Conference ENGINE 2020: SPARK VERSUS COMPRESSION IGNITION IN A NEW ENVIRONMENT The 26th International AVL “Engine & Environment“ Conference will take place in the Helmut List Halle in Graz, Austria, on the 11th and 12th of September, 2014. 3 1 F O C U S ENGINE & ENVIRONMENT AVL OPENS TECH CENTER IN BRAZIL In response to the growing demands for development and testing services in the world’s fourth largest automobile market, AVL recently opened a new tech center in Guarulhos, near Sao Paulo. With its new tech center AVL is able to support customers across the entire South American market in the development of drive solutions that are both efficient and low in emissions. Besides adapting engines to the regional requirements, for example to ethanol fuel, flex-fuel design, operation at high altitudes, etc., the activities will also include reducing fleet consumption by at least 12 percent until 2017, as required by Brazilian legislation. For this purpose, the AVL Brazil Tech Center, covering an area of 2,200 sq. m, provides engine testbeds and chassis dynamometers with climate conditioning and state-ofthe art consumption and emission measuring equipment, as well as model based development methods and simulation technology. As a localization partner, AVL Brazil additionally provides numerous supportive services (validation, endurance testing, etc.) to automotive manufacturers in the process of entering the South American market.
