AVL Omega

The Omega Hydraulic Engine Dynamometer – a product of AVL ZÖLLNER MARINE - is a cradled-mounted load unit for steady state testing of combustion engines in the power range from 550kW to 12,000kW.

AVL Approach

The AVL Omega Dyno works on the Föttinger principle. It converts the absorbed energy into heat which is carried off by cooling water flowing thru the dyno. The dyno works in one operating direction. Load is varied by controlling the water outlet valve position and the optimal heat dissipation is ensured by controlling the water inlet valve position.

Characteristics

The hydraulic dynos are controlled by fast-acting butterfly valves positioned in the water outlet and – depending on application – also in the water inlet pipe too. These valves regulate the quantity of water and pressure within the AVL Omega hydraulic dyno.
When AVL Omega hydraulic dynamometers are equipped with both controlled inlet and outlet valves, they are suitable not only for steady-state but also for transient testing.
