At AVL we have designed our single cylinder research engines and their peripherals to offer a huge range of advantages for engine development and research. Its applications include everything from small passenger cars to heavy-duty truck engines, components, alternative fuels and even lubricants.
Offering insights into engine combustion events in a realistic environment, they allow OEMs the opportunity to see the effects of their designs and concepts firsthand. Conducting research this way prior to concept application delivers confidence early in development.
Modular Design for Versatility
Our single cylinder research engines and compact testbeds can be tailored to your specific development needs thanks to their modular design. They feature a transparent top that provides an uninhibited view of combustion events, and allows them to be used with modern, laser-supported, measuring techniques.
This turnkey solution can be provided in bore diameters from 65 to 145 mm, displacement from 0.2 to 2.8 liters, and a maximum combustion peak firing pressure higher than 30 MPa. This makes it ideal for applications up to the largest truck engine sizes.
Featuring a GDI cylinder head for pass cars applications with the highest flexibility in tumble and injector installations, it is suited to fuel injection and combustion phenomena investigations. Research and development measurement projects can even be carried out at our internal transparent engine laser laboratory.
