AVL ROADSIM 72" MIM TRUCK™ Chassis Dynamometer

The AVL ROADSIM 72" MIM TRUCK™ Chassis Dynamometer is designed for testing buses and trucks in applications like emission analysis.

AVL Approach

The cradled AC motor is arranged between two fixed rollers. It is designed for ideal road load simulation of vehicles. The mass simulation is realized electrically by the AC motor with a mechanical base inertia of the two rollers.

Benefits at a Glance

  • Just a small pit is needed due to the compact 'motor-in-the-middle' design
  • Highly accurate force and speed measurement chain through modern sensor equipment
  • Dead weight calibration through zero without demounting of calibration device and zero-point shifting

Measuring Principle

Tractive force
The tractive force is measured by a strain gauge sensor supporting the cradle mounted motor.

The speed is measured by an incremental encoder with two 90° shifted tracks with detection of the direction of rotation.
