AVL Italia Is a Partner in the Project for the Development of a Megawatt Charging Station for Heavy-Duty Vehicles Along the A22 Brenner Motoway

A 1 MW electric charging station for heavy-duty vehicles has been installed on the A22 motorway, in the Firmian parking area, at the Bolzano South toll exit. This is the first station specifically designed for electric trucks and lorries, and it marks the first installation of a fully operational MCS (Megawatt Charging System) in Italy, as well as one of the very first in Europe.

AVL Italia is also involved in the project, which was inaugurated by Autostrada del Brennero. In the coming months, AVL Italia will provide the station with an energy storage system that enables the smart distribution of the energy needed for heavy transport.
This is an innovative and complex technological solution designed to effectively absorb grid fluctuations, ensuring peak shaving: drawing energy from the grid when it is cheaper and distributing it where it is needed at the most appropriate time.
In the coming months, the infrastructure will also be upgraded with AVL ATENE, the digital platform for monitoring and controlling the microgrid.

The main goals of the pilot project are to ensure power delivery stability for the infrastructure, manage excessive peak loads by eliminating grid instability, use renewable energy sources for a more competitive energy supply, and guarantee the operational continuity of the infrastructure itself.

Dino Brancale, Managing Director of AVL Italia, said: "We are proud of this project, which — thanks to AVL Italia’s contribution as a company specialized in infrastructure technology solutions and innovations for sustainable mobility and energy — will help transform the A22 into an innovative strategic hub for sustainable freight transport."
