AVL PLUtron™

PLUtronize beyond limits

Fuel flow meter for close-to-engine applications and the testing of components, engine, and vehicles.

Video file

Managing the increasingly complex challenges facing automotive engineers requires device connectivity and workflow compatibility throughout the development and testing process. This requires that integrated measurement devices must be able to cover the entire range of applications from close-to-engine, component testing, engine testbed applications and in-vehicle testing both on the chassis dyno and on the road.
We developed AVL PLUtron™ to be a universal flow measurement system that covers a wide range of applications requiring dynamic flow measurement. Its increased dynamic capabilities support fuel consumption measurement even under pulsating flow conditions and open up a new dimension of dynamic fuel consumption measurement. It features a measuring range of up to 300 l/h at up to 20 bar pressure and an extended temperature range.

Collecting consistent data throughout the entire automotive development and testing process alongside the need to validate the smallest of improvement increments < 1 g/kWh are examples of the major challenges facing the industry today.
Integrated measurement devices need to be able to cover the entire range of applications from close-to-engine, component testing, engine testbed applications and in-vehicle testing both on the chassis dyno and on the road.
The requirements for the successful measurement of transient engine operation both on engine testbeds and in the vehicle demand even faster dynamic response, extended measurement ranges, and increased accuracy.

AVL PLUtron

A New Dimension of Dynamic Fuel Consumption Measurement

AVL PLUtron features wide media compatibility with fuels, test fluids, water and even urea solutions. Flexible interfaces, such as CAN Bus and an optional handheld display facilitate flow meter adaptation for different tasks in every testing environment throughout the whole engineering and development process.
With its high level of robustness against vibration and shock, its extended temperature range, and IP67 protection class, the AVL PLUtron enables dynamic fuel consumption measurement even in harsh close-to-engine environment. Smart sensor control and advanced self-diagnostics ensure simple startup and reliable operation.

  • Highest measurement uncertainty of ≤ 0.1 % of reading at data rates up to 100 Hz
  • No influence on unit-under-test (Δp=0)
  • Increased reliability under rough conditions thanks to robust design and long-term stable calibration
  • Direct mass flow output - density measurement with incorporated density meter
  • Unique plug-and-play usability for workflow optimization
  • Higher flexibility due to large measuring ranges with high resolution, accuracy, and extended temperature ranges
  • Reduced test time in component production at affordable cost of ownership

PLUtron mit Anwender

AVL PLUtron impresses with truly unique functionality and simplifies daily measurement tasks:

Outstanding Dynamic Properties

Measurement uncertainty of ≤ 0.1 % of reading at data rates up to 100 Hz.

Flexibility in Daily Operation

Higher flexibility due to large measuring ranges with highest resolution, accuracy, and extended temperature ranges.

One System - All Information

Direct mass flow output. Incorporated sensors for density, temperature, and pressure measurement.

Real-Life Operation

Thanks to the bidirectional measurement capability and the PLU principle (Δp=0), the vehicle is not influenced in operation.

Reliability

Increased reliability under rough conditions thanks to robust design and long-term stable calibration.

Ease of Use

Unique plug-and-play usability for workflow optimization and reduced test time in component production at affordable cost of ownership.

In-vehicle Testing

In-vehicle testing on gasoline vehicles, such as passenger cars or motorcycles, in UREA and water applications, where robustness against pressure pulsation and vibration is an increasingly important feature in order to provide reliable results.

Close-to-engine applications

Close-to-engine applications have very demanding requirements, such as a high data rate in combination with highest dynamics and robustness. This high dynamic and robust measurement capability ensures reproducible measurements of consumption flow even in pulsating flow conditions.

End-of-line testing

End-of-line testing in component production is a demanding field of application. PLUtron increases testbed efficiency with faster stabilization and shorter measurement times.

Generic flow meter applications

Generic flow meter applications on testbeds and in the lab, such as durability testing or HC- and SCR-dosing system characterization, profit most from flexible interfaces and simple setup supported by intelligent self-diagnostics.
