AVL E-STORAGE BTE™

Join us in exploring new e-horizons.

Battery tester and emulator for research and development, testing, and validation purposes.

e-storage bte

The AVL E-STORAGE BTE™ is a combined device that can be used as a battery tester and battery emulator (simulator) to validate and test batteries as well as e-motors, inverters, and fuel cells in an early development phase. The device offers a combination of outstanding dynamic performance with highest measurement and control accuracy. The E-STORAGE BTE not only reduces the lifecycle testing time of the battery by up to 20 %, but also enables the faster characterization of reliable and durable e-drive components.

From battery tests to battery emulation, and from single components to complete electrified powertrains, AVL E-STORAGE BTE offers you a comprehensive, versatile solution. Our robust and accurate tool features a unique model-based and predictive control strategy with outstanding stability. This supports realistic battery emulation and allows it to reproduce highly dynamic charge and discharge load profiles for battery testing.

We have designed the performance of E-STORAGE BTE to have minimal influence on test results, ensuring system and time accuracy for exact replays of driving profiles. This leads to a highly efficient testing process that saves time and reduces costs. Furthermore, you can use the system as a highly stable voltage source.

E-Storage BTE EMZ
Replication of High Dynamic Profiles

With a current rise time below 2ms the device is ready to replicate highly dynamic load profiles without leaving gaps.

Replication of High Current Profiles

For configurations with parallelized output channels, replication of highly current and dynamic load profiles is possible.

Wide Variety of Customers with Different Demands

Different customers may have different demands for testing and the E-STORAGE BTE covers low power to high power demands with the given portfolio.

Flexible and Realistic Battery Modelling

We have optimized the system’s control strategy to ensure realistic battery modelling when used as a standalone RT solution and when integrated into our automation platform. Our battery models MoBat behave like a real battery, at cell, module, and pack level. By applying different models, you can replicate test runs for multiple testing scenarios.

When we created the AVL E-STORAGE BTE, we put flexibility and automation at its core. Automated configuration changes in the Power Distribution Switch Box (PDSB) reduce test bed downtime and increase availability and utilization. This allows the automated switching between test beds as well as the parallelization of systems without any manual modifications

High-Precision Test Results

Unique control and measurement strategy for realistic battery testing and emulation enables outstanding control and measurement accuracy and stability.

Maximum Flexibility and Scalability

Combined with a Power Distribution Switch Box (PDSB), it provides maximum flexibility for the power and current requirements used at different test beds.

Simple to Operate

Simple to operate due to integration in AVL’s test bed automation software AVL PUMA 2™ and AVL LYNX 2™.

Dual Mode Switching for High Current demands

With the AVL E-STORAGE BTE Dual Mode system, you can test units with either low voltage and higher current (i.e. 800 V, 1,600 A) or high voltage and low current (1,200 V, 800 A), and can manage them remotely via the automation system.

Different Configurations for Different Needs

The AVL E-STORAGE BTE multi-channel system enables you to run two different Units-Under-Test (UUT) at the same time on one system, with up to 800 V and 600 A per channel.

High Accuracy Control and Measurement Option

The built-in measurement and control equipment allows high accuracy control and measurement performance to achieve high-precision test results
