Speed assistance, lane keeping and automated braking systems – our vehicles are increasingly automated. Automated and connected mobility (CAM, CCAM) has been an integral part of our corporate strategy for many years. ADAS and Autonomous Driving
Vehicles on today’s market generally offer Level 2 or Level 2+ advanced driver assistance systems, where the driver still needs to be engaged in the driving. Vehicles with an approved Level 3 in which the driver is allowed to turn away from traffic are still rare. AVL has a proven track record of customer projects up to L2+ and is supporting commercial vehicle customers on their way to entire fleets driving autonomously 24/7 on highways.
Mobility and Sensor Test Center Roding
With the new Mobility and Sensor Test Center, AVL opened a unique indoor laboratory for the verification and validation of sensors for driver assistance systems in Roding, Germany. In the 1600 square meter test area, safety-relevant functions can be tested under adverse weather conditions, independent of real outdoor conditions, thus ensuring the safety of vehicles in semi-autonomous operation.
Vehicle Engineering Center Hungary
Vehicle testing is one of the major pillars of the development process and a huge milestone before a new vehicle type will be released. Our new vehicle engineering centre in Zalaegerszeg, Hungary, is located next to the newest and most innovative proving ground, AVL ZalaZONE. The new center offers space for more than 50 test vehicles which can be tested in the 15-hectare Smart City at AVL ZalaZONE, which provides a unique purpose-built city environment for testing the functionality of connected and automated vehicles and related technologies.
Safety and Security
Given the complexity of both developing the current and next generations of vehicle concepts, and the vehicles themselves, it’s clear that Functional Safety, Safety of the Intended Functionality (SOTIF), and Cybersecurity cannot be an afterthought. Instead, it must be an integral part of the development process, from vehicle and system level right down to the individual component, and from the concept phase throughout the complete vehicle lifecycle.
At AVL, our approach is holistic and comprehensive, considering the entire vehicle in everything we do. In the case of SOTIF and Cybersecurity in relation to ADAS, AD and connected systems, we have many years of experience developing the tools and processes to help our customers comprehensively tackle the issues and challenges that they present. This includes the tools, such as system design, simulation, and the relevant test environments, to support development, verification and validation of the vehicle and its systems. And we can also provide the engineering support to either enable our customers to tackle these challenges themselves or take over that function entirely on their behalf.
Functional Safety
Functional safety is about implementing measures to mitigate or eliminate hazards caused by the failure of a system or the vehicle. We offer engineering services and tools to support this topic. This way, we can support our customers in ensuring that functional safety is achieved at every step of the process.
Cybersecurity
Our cybersecurity portfolio is targeted to support OEMs, Tiers and certification bodies within the complete development process. Therefore, we are supporting the market with one-stop engineering service and with powerful software tools designed to support the process with higher automation and efficiency.
Connected Mobility
Connected mobility provides new features and user experience by enabling vehicles, user devices, infrastructure, and the cloud to interact. The base for this are wireless services such as 5G, WiFi, Bluetooth or even Satellite data links as continuous growing ecosystem with almost endless possibilities for connectivity enabled vehicle applications and services inclusive of automated driving. We are an independent partner in this area with the experience and understanding for automotive connectivity and can offer tailored services to our customers, backed with proven competence and references.
Connectivity benchmarking, market trend and architecture concepts are one corner stone of our activities. We deliver insights on state-of-the-art implementations and provide an outlook on the next major steps of the automotive market. In regards to wireless architecture development, we have the background in concept and design considering the various requirements and constraints.
Connected mobility is a system approach, where we can provide the complete chain. Prototypes or SOP development with in-vehicle wireless implementations, communication schemes e.g. to the cloud with backend processing for specific features.
