Balancing Cost, Speed and Quality in Development

Real-world testing for climate, altitude, Noise, Vibration, Harshness (NVH), Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), and endurance nevertheless is essential—but costly and time-consuming when performed on-road. Restricted budgets lead to fewer prototypes available, therefore validating new technologies demands smarter approaches and flexible, future-ready testing environments.

Vehicle Test System

Our vehicle test systems are designed to validate and test a wide range of vehicle types, from motorcycles to 6x6 heavy-duty trucks, covering various velocities, forces, power classes, and voltage and current levels for electrified vehicles. The testbeds simulate vehicle velocity and force, replicating real-world driving conditions, road data, or time-lapsed testing scenarios.

With an optimized hardware and software toolchain, our systems significantly shorten the design and validation process, allowing for faster setup and execution in a reproducible lab environment. These test systems reduce the need for on-road testing, minimizing time, risk, and costs.

All calculations and protocols, as well as measurement results, are approved by leading authorities, and our systems can be certified according to            ISO 17025. As a result, testing outcomes using AVL vehicle testbeds are     fully recognized and accepted by authorities, including for range or COP testing.

AVL ROADSIM 25”

Compatible with a wide range of two-wheelers, three-wheelers, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), and small passenger vehicles, the ROADSIM 25” INLINE 1x1 series delivers high dynamic performance and a broad tractive force range for realistic road-load simulations. Fully automated calibration and test execution via AVL PUMA 2 minimizes manual intervention, making it ideal for testing electric, hybrid, and combustion vehicles across diverse performance profiles.

AVL ROADSIM 48”

Compatible with a wide range of propulsion types and drive configurations, AVL ROADSIM™ 48 delivers high dynamic performance and proven accuracy according to ISO 17025. The system supports legislative testing, range testing, durability testing, climatic testing, and research and development (R&D) applications. All components – from the core dynamometer to integrated equipment – come from a single, trusted source, ensuring compatibility and simplifying procurement.

AVL ROADSIM HD TRUCK™

AVL ROADSIM HD TRUCK™ is designed to meet the evolving demands of heavy-duty vehicle testing. Its modular architecture and single roller diameter enable high configurability in power, range, and dimensions – supporting a wide variety of vehicle sizes, wheel configurations, and performance levels. The system is compatible with single and tandem axle vehicles and offers high pull-down force capability of up to 150,000N for realistic vehicle loading simulations. Fully automated calibration eliminates the need for extra weights or manual arms, significantly reducing manpower requirements.

AVL ROADSIM™ EMC 

AVL ROADSIM™ EMC enables dynamic vehicle-level Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) testing without compromising measurement accuracy. It supports static and real-driving tests for passenger cars and heavy-duty vehicles. With best-in-class EMC performance, full automation via AVL PUMA 2 Vehicle, and compliance with CISPR 12, 25, and 36, the system ensures reliable results. More than 50 installations worldwide confirm its proven capability.
