aviation 2016 will see a new global standard for measuring particulate emissions in aviation certification, which is to gradually replace the previous filter smoke number measurement. In future, it will become mandatory to determine particle number and soot (black carbon) mass together with the already regulated gaseous emissions. AVL helped an international team of experts to master the challenges of finding a robust method to measure particulate emissions from turbine engines. For this purpose, AVL specifically enhanced its tried and tested automotive measuring system and complemented it with a new sampling system in collaboration with customers and legislators. As a result, a simple and efficient all-inone solution for jet engine certification is available to customers with immediate effect.
