integrated & open development platform ment whenever you need to. Wolfgang Puntigam, Head of IODP: “This creates extremely short feedback loops, which makes the development process much more agile.” INTEGRATED SIMULATION AND TESTS The Integrated and Open Development Platform solution for integrating simulation models is called Model.CONNECT™. The open integration 3 2 F O C U S and co-simulation software opens up new dimensions in modelbased development. Acting as a neutral, vendor-independent translation layer between different simulation tools, it allows engineers to set up and execute system simulation models out of component models from a variety of sources. “The main purpose of the software is to synchronize calculation and data exchange. It is based both on interface standards (functional mockup interface, FMI) and on non-standardized interfaces, allowing models to be integrated with a large number of known simulation tools,” said Günter Lang. In an effort to bring simulation to the testbed as well, in other words also make real components visible in Model.CONNECT™ and, as a result, allow real and virtual components to be exchanged in functional prototypes as required, AVL is developing the software Testbed.CONNECT™. This eagerly awaited software is expected to be released in 2017. “The solutions cover a broad spectrum of application areas ranging from the areas of integrated safety, driving dynamics and energy management to real driving emissions and driver assistance systems,” Wolfgang Puntigam added. By overcoming the boundaries between the virtual and the real world, the development process is made more agile, robust and efficient. At any time during the process, users have the optimum basis for making statements about the end-product. INTELLIGENT DATA LINKING Creating and testing virtual and virtual/real prototypes generates huge volumes of data. AVL is additionally developing a solution to meet the challenges entailed in displaying results, navigating databases or retrieving data from various sources. “There is more to development than just generating reliable simulation data,” Wolfgang Puntigam emphasized. “You have to be able to draw the right conclusions.“ To tackle this task, AVL is currently working on a concept for Data.CONNECT™. The tool helps engineers to interlink data that are already available in such a way that customers are offered an increased added value. “Data.CONNECT™ establishes relationships between the data, so that they offer valuable clues as to whether, for example, further simulation or tests are needed,” Günter Lang explained . The data solution helps OEMs achieve increased transparency based on existing knowledge and across data sources, and, additionally, build new knowledge. BRIDGE TO THE FUTURE The IODP is one of AVL‘s strategic pillars and was designed to integrate the customer‘s individual development process. It helps OEMs succeed in series development and supports collaboration within organizations and teams. Wolfgang Puntigam: “The IODP makes an essential contribution to turn tomorrow‘ s vision of the automotive industry into today‘s reality. It bridges the gap between the real and the virtual world and enhances efficiency throughout all development > phases.”  < AVL‘s IODP opens up new dimensions in model-based development.
