/ 21 1998 Helene Karmasin, Ulrich Seiffert, Jürgen Gebert, Hiromitsu Ando, Wolfgang Egger, Gerhard Wagner The subjective perception of driveability offered by the powertrain and new approaches to meeting customer requirements were the core topics at the “Engine & Environment” conference 1998, opened by Dr. Helene Karmasin of “Institut für Motivforschung” who looked at the topic from the consumer research angle. The range of technical presentations included measurement and reduction of engine, transmission and powertrain noise, the “optimization of shift comfort through adaptive parameter variation (Dipl.-Ing. Jürgen Gebert, BMW AG) and AVL’s lecture on the innovative “measurement and optimization of the driveability in the vehicle and on the dynamic test bed”. Dr. Peter Schöggl, who authored the presentation together with CEO Prof. Helmut List and Dr. Günter Fraidl, reached the following conclusion: “AVL is presenting a new technology for objectifying vehicle driveability, opening up new options for differentiation so that vehicle manufacturers can give their products very specific characteristics. (...) The AVL DRIVE evaluation system can be used in research and development; for the first time ever it allows simultaneous optimization of the target criteria of performance, fuel consumption, emissions and driveability on test beds.” DRIVER – CAR – POWERTRAIN ›1998 ›2000 ›2002 ›2003 Powertrain Engineering – Assessing and Fulfilling Subjective Customer Requirements
