With the AVL Virtual Testbed™, the gap between simulation and conventional test benches is closed. As a result, various tasks of XCU software development and its calibration can be frontloaded from, for example, an engine test bench to the AVL Virtual Testbed™. The basis is laid out by a technical representative model of combustion engine, exhaust aftertreatment systems and other powertrain components. The AVL Virtual Testbed™ combines models, control unit electrical integration and automated operation in a complete solution. The only remaining real vehicle component is a control unit which is connected through a hardware-in-the-loop-platform (HiL). The modeling can be done using AVL CRUISE M or alternatively by deploying the AVL methodology MoBEO (Model Based Engine Optimization). The openness of the system also ensures the integration of customer-built models. AVL CAMEO™ is used in calibration. An important aspect is the validation of development work and calibration by performing driving cycles such as NEDC or FTP75 (passenger car) or test cycles such as WHTC or NRTC (Heavy Duty for road or off-road). The investigation of emissions in real driving conditions (Real Driving Emissions – RDE) is enabled by generating virtual driving routes with AVL InMotion™. AVL Virtual Testbed™
