/ 9 Emission and CO2 EFFICIENT REDUCTION OF REAL DRIVING EMISSIONS emonstrating compliance with the emission limits for passenger cars under real-world driving conditions reuires not only a new generation of portale measurement systems, ut also a totally new methodology for developing powertrains and vehicles. AVL provides ecellent support in oth areas. The Euro 6c Emission Standards, to e introduced in 2017, reuire that passenger cars and lightduty vehicles prove compliance with emission limits under real-world driving conditions. For OEMs, ensuring compliance with Real riving Emissions RE presents a major challenge. While it used to e sufficient to optimize emissions within the legally reuired cycles, it is now reuired not only to tune the vehicles entire operating range to optimally fit the emission limits, ut also to make sure that the adjustments are just as functional for standard conditions as they would e for a road range of routes uran, countryside, highways, etc., traffic situations or any kind of weather or road conditions heat, cold, rain. The impact of different driver types additionally needs to e considered. The standard development methodology has started to reach its limits, ecause one would reuire a disproportionately high numer of test runs to fully cover all driving situations. A solution to the prolem is offered y model-ased development that optimizes the development tasks consideraly y employing physical/empirical models for the engine, ehaust gas aftertreatment and the entire system. RE also reuires a new generation of portale emissions measurement systems PEMS.
