The Theory Behind Our Expertise

In our camshaft production, we process raw bar material as well as forged or cast blanks. Machining begins on CNC lathes, where bearing seats, mating surfaces and references are prepared by cutting. Production steps such as deep hole drilling or the precise execution of oil bores require close process control. This is followed by hardening processes such as inductive hardening or gas nitriding, depending on the requirements and material - such as 42CrMo4, GJL-300 or 31CrMoV9. The final cam machining is carried out by hard fine grinding with high demands on dimensional accuracy and surface quality. In the final finishing process, the surface quality of the components is specifically adapted to customer-specific requirements. Processes such as fine grinding and polishing are used to ensure defined roughness values (e.g. Rz ≤ 1 µm) and tribological properties. This ensures optimum functional reliability, reduced wear and high dimensional and shape accuracy in subsequent use. For quality assurance, we use optical measurement technology for contour and position measurement.

AVL SCHRICK Tuning

The manufacture of crankshafts places high demands on machines, materials and process control. Depending on customer requirements, we use forged, cast or machined blanks. Machining begins with the turning of the main bearings and end faces, followed by the eccentric machining of the crank pins. Special challenges arise from the asymmetrical geometry and the dynamic requirements for mass distribution and imbalance. After heat treatment - usually inductive hardening or nitriding - finishing operations such as grinding and deburring are carried out. Our optical measurement technology is used to precisely record position, concentricity and geometric deviations. In this way, we ensure the quality specified by the customer in every process step.
