Sustainability & Gender Equality

Being a technological leader means shaping the path towards a more sustainable future, while also committing to gender equality and inclusion.
At AVL Italia, we believe that innovation and responsibility go hand in hand, driving positive change for both the environment and society.

Dear Stakeholders,

It is with great satisfaction that I present to you the first Sustainability Report of AVL Italia srl, the result of a shared journey that integrates technological innovation and social responsibility. Founded in 1980, AVL Italia supports its clients with the full range of AVL technologies, thanks to its main office in Turin and an advanced Technical Center in Cavriago (RE), where development and testing come together to deliver cutting-edge, tailor-made solutions.
Over the past year, we have strengthened our investments in “green” technologies: at the Cavriago Technical Center, a hydrogen cell is under construction, which will allow us to test and validate zero-emission engines. At the same time, we won the tender issued by the Ente Autonomo Volturno of the Campania Region for the construction of a 5 MW green hydrogen production and storage plant, complete with a refueling station for trains and buses in the local public transport network. Our vision is also expressed through strategic partnerships: in July 2024, AVL Italia became a founding member of the Venice World Sustainability Capital Foundation (VSF), an alliance that enables us to contribute to reforestation projects, lagoon protection, and biodiversity promotion, while keeping the development of cleaner mobility solutions at the core.
We firmly believe that sustainability must start with the younger generations: our STEM training programs continue without pause. The “H-Demia” training program, now in its eleventh edition, has offered over 360 hours of lessons and today sees nearly 25 trained talents joining the AVL Italia team and collaborating with our clients. At the same time, the AVL Green Camp initiative has brought hundreds of middle school students closer to the world of new technologies and the eco-transition, sparking curiosity and an innovative spirit from an early age.
Alongside these educational initiatives, we have continued to support reforestation and biodiversity protection projects, involving local communities and environmental organizations to help restore ecosystems and combat climate change.
Finally, we remain true to our values of inclusion and equality: during 2024, we completed the certification process according to the UNI PDR 125 requirements for gender equality, obtaining certification in January 2024. This achievement demonstrates our commitment to building a fair, diverse, and stimulating work environment for everyone. The report we present to you is tangible proof of a journey that looks to the future of mobility and infrastructure with clean solutions, education, and active community participation.
We thank you for your trust and continued support: together, we will continue to turn environmental challenges into opportunities for growth and innovation.

Kind regards,
Domenico Dino Brancale
Managing Director AVL Italia

At AVL Italia, we believe that diversity and inclusion are fundamental to building an equitable and innovative workplace. We are committed to fostering an environment where every individual, regardless of gender, background, or identity, has equal opportunities to grow, contribute, and succeed.

For Our Employees

To bring this commitment to life, we have embarked on a structured and ongoing journey, led by a dedicated Guide Commettee, to ensure inclusivity at every level of our organization. This path includes:

  • Comprehensive Training: we have delivered over 2 hours of mandatory training on gender issues to our entire workforce — more than 350 employees — covering topics such as inclusive language and the prevention of workplace harassment. This initiative fosters a culture of respect, awareness, and shared responsibility.
  • Inclusive Job Descriptions: we have reviewed and improved our job descriptions by using neutral and inclusive language, ensuring that our opportunities are accessible to everyone.
  • Objective Recruitment Processes: we have implemented a competency-based evaluation system, where each skill and requirement is clearly defined in advance using standardized criteria. All interviewers follow the same structured framework, significantly reducing subjectivity and ensuring candidates are assessed fairly — based solely on their actual capabilities and potential.
  • Equal Career Development: we continuously review our career paths to ensure equal opportunities for all employees, enabling professional growth based on merit and performance.

As a result of these initiatives, we have proudly achieved the Gender Equality Certification — a recognition of our efforts to create a fair and inclusive workplace. However, we view this certification not as a final goal, but as a step in our continuous journey of improvement. Looking ahead, we have set a clear target: to reach 25% women representation across our workforce by 2026. We remain dedicated to further enhancing our workplace policies, fostering a culture of equity, and ensuring that every employee feels valued, respected, and empowered.

Diversity & Inclusion

For Our Society

Our commitment to diversity and inclusion extends beyond our workplace. We actively collaborate with academic institutions and industry associations to drive change in the broader professional and educational landscape.

AVL Italia is a proud member of the Gender and Diversity Empowerment Committee, created in partnership with MUNER - The Motor Valley University of Emilia Romagna – which brings together the local Universities and the main Motor Valley Companies.
This initiative aims to foster a more inclusive culture in both academic and professional settings. As part of this effort, the committee has developed dedicated training programs for students and professors on gender equality titled MUNER DRIVES CHANGE
Our company has contributed to this initiative by providing expert mentorship, including a workshop on stereotypes, bias, and neutral feedback, helping future and current professionals develop a more conscious and inclusive mindset.

Additionally, we actively participate in panels and career orientation initiatives aimed at guiding younger generations, such as the yearly round table addressed to the female of the summer school Women in Trasport (WIT), which involves the main companies of the Motor Valley. By working closely with universities and schools, we strive to ensure that students have the necessary tools and awareness to make informed career choices and build a future free from bias.

Since 2024 AVL Italia is co-founder of the prestigious Venice Sustainability Foundation (VSF). This strategic partnership underscores our commitment to fostering innovation and sustainable development in the region.

The Venice Sustainability Foundation aims at promoting Venice as a global hub for culture, technology, and environmental sustainability. By joining forces with the foundation, AVL Italia contributes with its expertise in advanced technologies and engineering solutions to support the foundation’s mission.

The partnership is focusing on several key areas. Specifically, AVL Italia targeted its support to 3 main streams: hydrogen, environmental transition and Venice city campus, which aims to increase the academic offering of the area.  Our cutting-edge research and development capabilities will play a crucial role in driving these initiatives forward. Several actions are already ongoing, we mention one which is targeting the live mapping of actual fleet emissions to drive and measure the environmental impact of the upcoming measures, but also a second one reflecting on how to measure in the public purchasing the effective impact of the sustainability interventions.

This collaboration marks a significant milestone for us and reaffirms our dedication to making a positive impact on society and the environment.
