FUNCTIONAL TESTING & FAILURE INSERTION The driving idea behind this new test-method is to embed the powertrain / 20 into a highly flexible maneuver- and event based testing environment: The “real Unit Under Test” at the testbed (the powertrain) exchanges real-time information (torque, speed, …) with the “virtual UUT” (the rest-of-the-vehicle) and the virtual proving ground (road, traffic, environment, driver and maneuver control). Figure 2. The ensemble of real and virtual UUT then undergoes “in-the-loop testing” in a simulated real-world driving situation. This extends the well-known x-in-the-loop approach to powertrain-testbeds, thereby bridging together the four testing development environments Office- Lab-Testbed-Road. A layer called “Test Manager” acts between a Requirement Management Systems and test execution. Entire “test catalogs” with thousands of maneuvers are thereby managed in a comprehensive and flexible manner. TEST METHODOLOGY AND EXECUTION In a first step the functional test cases are defined and prioritized while during a 2nd step the vehicle tests are executed on a testbed (automatically or semi-automatically). For the 2nd step the testbed is upgraded to allow interfacing with all required vehicle systems as well as with diagnostic tools and additional equipment necessary to initialize the test or to inject stresses and failures. While stress and failure injection relied on failure insertion units (well know from HiL testing), the application on a testbed was different and, therefore, had to be adapted. During testbed operation specifically the initialization and re-initialization of each test case demanded additional efforts to synchronize all tools with the testbed control. REAL LIFE DRIVING EMISSIONS The application Real Life Driving Emissions is a seamless combination of the capabilities of AVL M.O.V.E and AVL InMotion. Real Life Data is recorded in a test drive with the AVL M.O.V.E Car (a real car). The recorded data is converted and edited with the AVL CONCERTO Road Importer.
