Applications The example shows a main injection timing base map with the design hull AVL CAMEO™ – EMISSIONS CALIBRATION Emission optimization is a challenging task in the calibration process. Legislation demands a continuous decrease in the emission limits over the last decade (e.g.: Euro3, Euro4, Euro5,..). The target is to optimise a new vehicle variant for lowest fuel consumption, / 24 while fulfilling emission legislation and maintaining positive vehicle attributes – examples being low noise, dynamic response and good driveability. MEASUREMENT Several vehicle data recorder data files, from a chassis dynamometer vehicle measurement are imported into the AVL CAMEO™ software and a test design is generated. In general, an engine has to fulfill the whole operating envelope of speed and load for several different vehicle variants. According to this, in the test design, the speed/load points that have the most effect on the engine emissions output are clustered and a DoE (Design-of-Experiment) design is generated by AVL CAMEO™, from which a testbed test sequence can be defined and executed – either directly by AVL CAMEO™, or via the testbed control system. From the testbed measurement data, a global model is created to be used to find the best combination of ECU parameters. The global model is created using the advanced iNN II algorithm, which ensures an excellent quality model, even for very complex response surfaces. The task is finalised by optimization and a verification run to provide the correct results for the engine, for every vehicle variant, for all imported driving cycles. APPLICATION The legislation tests for a driving cycle are implemented on a chassis dynamometer. A driving cycle recorder file is used as input for a AVL CAMEO™ design. From this design, measurement data from the engine form the base of a global engine model. This is used to find the optimal criteria for the engine controller calibration maps.
