After 47 years at the helm of AVL List: Helmut List hands over operational leadership and assumes chairmanship of the Supervisory Board
Graz, 18 May 2026 – After 47 years of operational responsibility as Chairman of the Management Board of AVL List, Helmut List will move to the Supervisory Board at the end of May and assume the role of Chairman.
In his new role, Helmut List will continue to provide strategic guidance for the long-term direction of the company. One focus of his work as Chairman of the Supervisory Board and owner of the company will be maintaining and expanding international relationships, in particular as a link between the company and global partners in the mobility industry, as well as strengthening existing and new customer relationships.
"Taking on the chairmanship of the Supervisory Board is a conscious next step for me. Together, we have developed AVL into a leading technology partner for sustainable mobility. In my new role as Chairman of the Supervisory Board, I will continue to support this path and contribute my experience. At the same time, now is the right time to create space for new perspectives in operational management in order to consistently drive forward the transformation toward sustainable mobility," emphasizes Prof. Helmut List.
Orderly transition with a clear focus on the future
Lukas Walter will succeed him as Chairman of the Management Board. As a proven industry expert with many years of experience and in-depth market knowledge, he will consistently continue the successful development of AVL List and provide new strategic impetus for the sustainable success of the company.
Walter has already played a key role in shaping the development of AVL List in the past. In his previous position as Chief Operating Officer (COO) in the Engineering business unit, he was closely involved in key strategic decisions and played a decisive role in shaping the company's direction.
He previously served as Senior Vice President at MAN Truck & Bus, where he was responsible for engineering, product strategy and planning, and global truck sales. In addition, he spearheaded key transformation initiatives.
With over 30 years of experience in automotive product and business development as well as extensive expertise in engineering, business development and global sales, he is ideally suited to lead AVL List through the current transformation phase. Thanks to his many years of experience within the company and in top management positions within the Volkswagen Group, Lukas Walter also stands for continuity in AVL's business development.
"AVL is characterized by the pioneering spirit of Prof. Helmut List and the ambition to take mobility to the next technological level. Our ability to holistically develop complex drive systems and bring them into real-world application makes us a key partner in the transformation toward sustainable mobility. We will continue to pursue this path consistently,"
said Lukas Walter.
The restructuring plan is clearly defined and is being consistently implemented. The defined measures are taking effect as intended and are making a significant contribution to further strengthening operational efficiency and sharpening AVL List's strategic positioning in the international competitive environment over the long term. The change at the top management level is taking place seamlessly and has no impact on ongoing operations.
